ᎣᏏᏲ ᏂᎦᏓ,

ᏩᏙ to everyone who attended our family information sessions on June 30 and July 2 to learn about the new and exciting changes in our school. We are grateful for the time you gave, the questions you asked, and the feedback you shared about the proposed 2026–2027 school calendar.

After considering the advantages of language learning from a year-round school calendar along with the positive input received during those sessions, Cherokee Immersion School will implement the calendar that was presented to families. The calendar maintains the same number of 180 instructional days while organizing the school year in a way that supports consistent language learning, seasonal learning, family time, and student well-being. As a mission to grow second language Cherokee speakers having three months away from language instruction lends to summer language loss and away from this vital mission.

We also took your questions and comments about the transition to high school, safety, extracurricular activities, and how the calendar will work throughout the year into consideration and are working diligently to provide clear information and updates to you on those areas as the details are finalized.

Wado, for your partnership and for helping us plan the year ahead. We are grateful to walk this path together in support of our language, our children, and our community. For the 2026-27 academic year, our first day of school begins on August 27. We look forward to seeing you and your student there.
